Summer is here!

This is our last month in junior infants. We have had such a fantastic first year in school! Together, we have learned a lot of new things and have made so many new friends. June was a busy month for us, as we had tests, sports day and our show! Our teachers are so proud of us, and all of the hard work we have done. Have a look at some of the work we have completed this month!

English

This month we have been visiting the library bus and exploring the different books they have! We have also been practicing our writing. Ms. O’ Brien said we have become super writers! Since the beginning of the year we have made big improvements with our handwriting! Check out our writing about the winter show!

Under the sea

Something fishy happened this month...Junior infants went exploring the ocean! We learned lots about the different fish that you can see in the sea, and even created some fishy art!

We also sailed the high seas this month and became pirates! This was great fun and we found buried treasure in the yard! Some of us got lost along the way but we all found the treasure in the end!

Many creatures live in the ocean and we explored this using our water area! There were starfish, clown fish and some of us even saw a mermaid! Can you see them too?

Math

There was great excitement in junior infants when Ms. O’ Brien opened a class shop! We have been learning all about money in maths and had great fun being shopkeepers and customers! Check out the pictures of us in the shop!

Let’s get active!

A big thank you to all the mums and dads who have been sending in fruit and vegetables in our lunch boxes! This has helped us to become healthy and active in school! We had sports day this month and had great fun in all of the races. A big well done to the boys and girls for taking part and trying their best! Please keep being active during the holidays!

Show
On Tuesday we had our end of year show! We performed Alice in Wonderland. We worked really hard to learn all of our lines and had great fun! The whole class really enjoyed taking part in our first play!

We hope everyone enjoys the holidays! Remember to keep reading and be active during the time off!

Note from teacher: please keep packing a bottle of water in your child’s bag for the warm weather. Over the summer it is really important to visit the library to help with their reading! I am so proud of all the work they have done this year!

Summer time in Junior infants!
It has been a busy few weeks in the junior infant classroom and the end of the year is coming quickly! Junior infants have been working really hard to prepare themselves for senior infants next year and have had lots of fun learning in different ways! All of the teachers are very proud of the work the children have done.

English

We read the book Commotion in the ocean! We tried to walk like the different animals. Have a look at us walking like crabs and penguins! This was really fun! We have made huge improvements in our reading and have been visiting the mobile library.

Maths

In math we have been learning about light and heavy. We got to measure different objects using scales and balances. This was lots of fun. We worked together to guess which object was heavier. We even balanced some objects!

Science

We learned all about magnets! Magnets attract objects that are metal. We became scientists to find out what was made of metal in our classroom. Then, we worked together to make our superheroes fly! This was lots of fun!

Gardening

We have been working on our school garden. The whole school has worked together to plant and the secondary school has helped us too. It has helped us to learn all about what plants need to live and how to care for them!

Active school week

This month we became athletes! We completed lots of fun activities such as tug of war, Frisbee, a picnic and even had a visit from a member of an garda síochána! He played the sireens of his car and it was very loud!

The aquatic centre

The whole school were invited to the National aquatic centre to watch the swim Ireland competition. We had great fun at this and even got to try out their running track!  We have started our own swimming lessons too!

Notes to parents: please practice getting changed into swimming clothes and back into tracksuit as this will help with swimming!

Islamic studies

Alhamdulillah we have finished our nuraniah last month for this year. As a result the children all received Quran gift bags from the school. Now the children have started Hifz (memorisation) of Juz Am'ma. They are progressing really well and we are very happy with them!

Arabic

These are the shapes that the children in junior infants have covered and learnt. Here is a sample of the shapes that the children have learned in Arabic. We thought them the shapes in Arabic in addition to the colours also. They really enjoyed colouring and matching each shape outline with their correct shape in written Arabic.

The children have been learning lots of new words in Arabic and can say these in English too! Have a look at our posters. The children love to compare the words in English and Arabic!

In this picture we learned the letter mem (M) in Arabic and we took the word maleaqa which is spoon in Arabic .

Junior infants:
 Spring!
Finally it is spring, and in junior infants we have been learning all about the signs of spring. As well as this we have been enjoying learning in different ways.

Food dudes
We have had a busy few months in school. We finished our food dudes programme and we have all been earning certificates! We want to thank all of our mums and dads for giving us lots of lovely fruit and vegetables each day! These help us to grow big and strong, and help us to concentrate more in class. In the next few months we will be trying to drink more water in class! Please help me to remember my water bottle each day (especially when it gets warmer!)

100 days of school
Can you believe it has been over 100 days since we started school?! During these few months we have worked very hard and Ms. O’ Brien is so proud of us all! To celebrate our 100th day of school we had a party and completed lots of fun activities such as making a tower of 100, finger painting and cake decoration. Some of us haven’t missed any days of school and we received a certificate!

English
Junior infants have become bookworms! We all love to read and have been practicing in school and at home! We love to read new words using our sound it out method and have even begun to learn new tricky words! Our mums and dads have helped us at home to read and this has helped us lots! During our playtime we had a reading corner where we got to read lots of new books. We love to look at the pictures and predict what the story will be about!

The vets
During March we have been learning all about the vet. He is a doctor for animals! We learned some new words like receptionist and vaccination! We loved dressing up like the vet and making pet carriers out of our stickle bricks! This was tricky as they kept breaking. However, when we worked together we made some excellent carriers!

Spring
Spring is our favourite season in junior infants and we have been learning lots about the signs of spring. We even had a garden centre in our classroom! We used a checklist to look for signs of spring in the school. Senior and junior infants even went on a nature walk. We saw daffodils, ducks and even a swan!

Maths
It has been a busy few months in our math class! We have learned all about the number 5, and we also began to measure things in our classroom. We explored length using ribbon, cubes and links. We even measured the height of our partner!

World book day!
A big well done to everyone who dressed up for world book day! We had lots of fun in school completing a book quiz and parade. The whole school became illustrators and designed their own cover for a book! Everyone had a great day and the costumes were amazing!
